CAV-DEL or Lucas C35 A

Firstly, let me express my profound sadness at the tragedy in Manchester. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.

I have a late '31 motor which now carries a Lucas C 35 A dynamo. I understand from reading, that the Lucas was first installed in '32 and was wondering if there was a transition period where by late '31, Lucas dynamos were be used instead of the products from Vanderwell.

Re: CAV-DEL or Lucas C35 A

Lucas bought CAV in the twenties so the ater CAV DEL Dynamos are Lucas CAV although not advertised as such (I understand Herbert Austin didn't like dealing with Lucas )

Harry Hales helpful Electrical Guide booklet notes-

1928-1931 CAV/Lucas type DEL

1931-1935 Type C.35 A. Introduced with the change from short wheelbase to long wheelbase cars.

Given Austin's use of what was on hand maybe could mean the changeover wasn't immediate- others may be able to comment.

Cheers, Tony.
