There is 1489 cast into the head, it looks like a 1489cc pre-crossflow Ford engine, although the thermostat housing has been cut off so maybe it was marinised?

Could it be an OHV Hillman Minx motor? they had a bolted on thermostat housing and were 8 port too IIRC.

The cylinder head and engine mounts are wrong for a Ford, its not a 1500 Hillman at lease not Minx as I have one of those in my garage if any one wants it and I checked it today just in case. Its not BMC/ Leyland either, Its got me baffled!
