Instrument switchplates

I'm sure this must have been described before..............but what is the best way to refurbish a switchplate front? ie how to refresh the white engraved letters and the black paintwork on many switches?

Strip down to the bare metal. Clean out the embossed lettering with a toothpick then spray with black CELLULOSE.

Paint the embossed areas with white SYNTHETIC paint, allow to dry slightly then clean off gently with SYNTHETIC thinners.
