Lucas brush screws - where to buy them?

I have a 1932 RN with a c35a dynamo. All the brushes I've seen for this have a horse shoe cut in them and no connecting wire. My dynamo has brushes with connecting wires that screw into a holder as per the c35m dynamo. What size iny screw or ref number are these? Better still name and number of anyone who can supply me.Cheers Jez.

Re: Lucas brush screws - where to buy them?

Sounds like your dynamo is a bit of a hybrid. In the seventies, we used to assemble any combination of bits from the pile to make a working generator to light our way home from the pub!

I think most of the screws in the dynamo are BA, the brush wire screws 4BA possibly? You might need to "adjust" the length if you get generic screws.

BA screws available on eBay or from specialist suppliers (e.g. Spalding Fasteners). Find them on-line.

Hi Jez,
I'm with Tim on this, certainly on the hybrids - and I prefer the C35M type brushgear - but also on the 4BA. Although I haven't measured any screws, everything small and electrical in those days was BA. As an alternative to the normal slotted cheese head screws you may be able to get Allen heads - they would be a lot easier to install on the end of an Allen key and harder to drop?

I'd recommend getting in touch with Peter at CLASSIC DYNAMO & REGULATOR CONVERSIONS LTD. - he's a very helpful guy. Details on the "Cherished Suppliers" page.
