Saloon running board rubbers

Father fitted a set of the excellent Seven Workshop running board rubbers to what is now my Daughters RP when he restored it (1990).

However something very strange has happened in the 14 months or so its been here. The bit visible under the door has now turned into what I can only describe as very thick black snot. You leave footprints in it, and things stick to it - (note for Mr Dunford Sr, just like that stuff you put on the springs!).

Anyone else had the same trouble? Is there a magic cure? Or is it a replacement job?. I suspect it may be easier to make some new running boards rather than get this stuff off!

Re: Saloon running board rubbers

Hi Hedd,
Seems to me the manufacturer used a synthetic, perhaps 2 pack rubber material which is now breaking down.
I fear replacement is the only cure. :(
