Spares

Hi Everybody

I have just purchased a 1938 Austin 7 (Big 7) which needs a few spares such as ignition/ light switch, window winder, locking barrell etc. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier who might have such items.

Many thanks

Re: Spares

A lot of parts are shared with the 1938 Ruby model (brakes and hubs, some rear axle parts, some gearbox parts). New spares are available from our cherished supplier but you may need to establish whether they are identical to the 1938 Ruby part. Other spares are available from various sources, primarily the Big Seven Register, who have had specific parts made up.
Most engine parts are unobtainable, look out for pistons, bearings and gaskets on eBay.

A few parts (rear engine/gearbox mounting for example) are from the Austin 10/4 Cambridge and are obtainable from A10 parts suppliers.

Ignition/light switch is an A10 part I believe, shared with some post war MG models. Window winders may be unique on the six light, similar if not the same as Ruby for the four light. Door locks are the same as the Ruby.

Re: Spares

Cherished Cars ? - I think Tim was referring to the general term used in Austin 7 circles of "Cherished Suppliers" - of which there are quite a few. I've listed seven of them below plus a link to the 'old car services / austin seven specialists' page.

Note that Holmesdale Sevens also a supplier of new and original spares and Austin Big Seven Spares don't have websites whereas the others do.

Re: Spares

Thanks for that Jeff. Please excuse my ignorance of the 7s world terminology. I had checked several sites claiming to sell Austin 7s spares without success so thank you for your list.

If you click on the Austin badge at the top of this page it will direct you to the site's home page. On the left are a number of buttons - just click on the one which says "cherished suppliers" and then scroll down.
