'Recoil' inserts into 26VA Petrol Bowl ?

Has anybody had experience of using 'Recoil' inserts in the fixing 'tubes' of the Bowl on Zenith 26VA Carbs, please.

I'm mindful the bowl is Mazak. Yes, I have other bowls, but the combination of bowl, jets, VA26 etc., is all working well together, none of the spares are new, probably got crud in them and..... well apart from the threads ".... if it works, don't touch....".

Yesterday, during a fuel evaporation trauma... I found one bolt was loose, useless no thread left in the bowl, the other bolt probably had 4 turns of the screw, however on reinserting, after cleaning the bolt threads of Mazak residue, I believe that one bolt had hardly 2 turns in the thread to hold the bowl in place - fortunatly I had plenty of cable ties to hand, so held the bowl in place with a couple of them.

The trauma... was a 4 mile queue on A30 which hardly moved and it was hot, very hot for West - Mid Cornwall. After allowing the car to cool down for half an hour, the queue was moving along nicely now, never did find out why the initial hold-up, but I did get to the Rally.

Best wishes to 'One and All', and many thanks for the kind emails over time I've received wondering if I'm still in this world...

Watching with interest Sandy, same thing happened to my carb on the Euro tour. have
borrowed one from another car but would like to fixed the other for the very same reasons.

Zenith Bowl threads are Metric 7mm x 1mmm Use 2D Listed by Uni Thread. Shouldn't be too difficult to do

Helicoil/Recoil work well. I bought a kit on line for under £10 & did the job on the kitchen table!

One was done during a workshop day at the Essex A7 club. Took about 2 mins to helicoil in situ. Used the top as a guide for the helicoil drill, blown out to remove bits, tapped whilst held in one hand and helicoil screwed in. It was made to look very easy.

Re: 'Recoil' inserts into 26VA Petrol Bowl ?

Hi Sandy
I've done all my 26VA carbs, and the results have been sensational!
It takes a few minutes only, and I use an old valve guide as a drilling bush set in an aluminium bar base. I never waste any A7 scrap!!

I didn't make the rally but my Box (Lulu) failed dramatically after the Bristol Rally and had to be recovered home, (bless you RH Insurance), and I didn't get the engine running till 4.30 pm yesterday

Been wondering where you'd escaped to..............
Cheers

Many thanks One & All for your very kind thoughts re. my return - though I was never far away.

There seems to be no problems with fitting of 'Recoil' inserts (or other brands).

I shall contact Bob Kneale privately and it looks like another article for the Cornwall Club's Magazine.

Now, Yo-Yo suspension ?

Inserts ordered and paid for, so hopefully all will be well for this coming weekend's meeting up County.
