Car Values

I see on the A7OC web site there is a 1934 tourer for sale in Germany.

The asking price is around 8,200GBP, which to me in the UK seems a lot, but I am aware from a lot of overseas correspondance I have recieved in my capacity as A7CA's Registrar, that the UK values are lower in general than abroad.

Considering the current value of the pound (GBP) I would have thought overseas values would have been less than in the UK. Is this just market demand, rare overseas and relatively common in the UK - there are nearly 10,000 surviving A7's altogether.

The next problem for overseas sellers is that they believe their values are about right and try and sell back into the UK, if you also add the cost of transporting the vehicle back, they are unlikely to get a sale in the UK.

Believe it or not but you can get/buy an excellent car from NZ, transport it over here by ship's container and even if import tax has to be paid, is still cheaper than a comparable car in the UK.

Re: Car Values

See todays new post on "classifieds"... a cheap Type 65 for sale

Re: Re: Car Values

Agreed a good price, but the engines blown? now depending what that means, if it's the crankcase, then I did see a Type '65' crankcase shell at Beaulieu for £950, plus the cost for a correct 1.5" crankshaft, etc, etc, by the time that's all paid for and put together........

And yes, the expenditure is never reflected in the price we get when we come to sell, although this one if it's a good 'un, and there are about 300 type 65's (100 EB's and 200 Nippy's) surviving, then it should be not difficult to get the parts for the engine!

- The above numbers are extracted from the Assoc's Register, much easier now that the latest edition identify's the actual model compared with the previous editions, 'Sports', 'Box Saloon' etc...

Re: Car Values

I have spoken to Bob, It has "done " the crankcase. But it was a standard one. Why not put the same case to get it back on the road? i know that a 4speed crank case is very available ,inexpensively, ON the road for £200 's worth of bits. What cheap car! p.s. I am not on commission..... Mac

Re: Re: Car Values

Then it's not bad value, but if it's still unsold at present, what does that say about current values?

I was surprised to see the 1928 Mulliner Fabric (Reg No. WK 4824) only made a hammer price of £4,500 at H&H auctions in July at Buxton, but as it needs re-commsioning after a long stay in a museum, presumably that price will go up a bit.

I was also surprised to see Mrs JoJo only made £13,750 at Coys (OK estimate was £5k - £10k) considering it's history, agreed many rebuilds, but even so - see http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php?auction=39&id=33179 especially when you consider one of the original Ulsters made £30K (I think that's correct) last year.

I looked at the A7CA's Register of surviving A7's, but could not pick out 'Mrs JoJo', anybody know which one it is. Presuambly the chassis (number) is the same?

In the end any car is only worth what someone's prepared to pay for it, which thus brings us almost full circle back to Tomas' Fabric Saloon.......

Happy days.

Having looked at the photos you kindly sent my friend, I would say that when it is finished, a 'forecourt'* value might be around 6,000GBP in the UK. It might even go for more, but don't get to excited. However, you have to find the buyer first.

It may go for more. At an specialist's auction, depending on who's there, I would have thouhght 5,000GBP's.

BUT do not hold me to that. As has been stated many times the cost of restoration exceeds Value everytime (almost).

There's a 1951 Jaguar Mk V in this October's 'The Automobile' that had a 90,000 GBP restro to top flight concours condition and it fetched 34,6999 GBP's at a respected auction (Coys at Blenhiem Palace 18/6/05).

*'forecourt' = a garage forecourt or dealer selling the car as part of a final point of sale business transaction.
