A Blast from the Past

Leaving Camborne yesterday afternoon on route back to Bristol, just as I got to Tucking Mill a Ruby flashed past in the opposite direction. The whole car was a very matt olive drab army colour; it had cycle wings over the front wheels, it looked very 1960 ish, straight out of student bedsit land. I cannot recall seeing this car with the Cornwall Club, or noticed it in any of their photos. As far as I could see it was not flying the customary ‘Black Flag’. Could it be part of a Raiding party?. Would be interested to know more about this car.

Re: A Blast from the Past

Hi Ian,

I know some of our members are a little slow when it comes to polishing our cars but I must say the Ruby you describe does not come to mind as one of ours. ( Cornwall Club ).

We do get visitors ( both with and without their Sevens ). If anyone is coming to Cornwall with their Seven we are always pleased to organise a little run to show them our county ( and our cars ! )

Re: Re: A Blast from the Past

It's a modified engined (SU etc.) Big 7 , Reg No. UAS 261. It belongs to a builder in the area. He has worked down here in Mousehole, but was not very forthcoming about Chassis Nos. etc, possibly not helped by me telling him he was blocking the road junction near my house when he was parked up and working on a nearby house. Police came and moved him on after the local bus could not get pass, compounded by the dustbin lorry arriving early and the School taxi's turning up (mayhem), the bus driver called the Police, not me - I warned him, so my concience is clear.

Mousehole is known for narrow roads, no where to park and traffic jams in almost any season - all right not to the same degree as the M25, but you cannot go anywhere from Mousehole except back to Penzance.

Sandy in Mousehole.

Re: A Blast from the Past

Did we know you were coming down, Cornwall Club would have put the flags out................. that is once we had woken up from our trip back from the holiday in North Devon last week.

Re: Re: A Blast from the Past

Yes Sandy that must be the car as I thought it had an 'A' in the reg. no. The cycle front wings must have made it look smaller than a Big 7

Ian, a picture's on it's way to you...

Re: A Blast from the Past

Hi Sandy, it's me again!
Oi've been to Mousehole.... bumped into Jethro and Denzil on the way. (They'd just nicked that bus to get back to Cambourne)

Remember when the Milk Race was there in 1992?
I was one of the mad rozzers on the escort team.
