Help! with restoration of nippy

My parents live in the United States in Salem, Oregon and are the owners of
a 1934 Austin 7 "Nippy". The car has been undergoing a frame-off restoration
for the past 15 years (a slow, arduous process). It is currently completely
dissembled and most (95-99%) of the parts have been assimilated and have
been restored.
The problem I am experiencing now is that I need someone who knows what they
are doing to help rebuild the car and put everything back together. The
person who was helping my parents with this project has proven to be
unreliable and incredibly slow and so I am looking for someone else to help.
My parents are approaching their twilight years and it has always been their
dream to be able to once again drive their Nippy before the years have come
and gone. They are not very "computer savvy" and are not too familiar with
the internet, so I have taken on the task of trying to find someone out
there who may be able to help me finish restoring this vehicle.
The car is currently located in Salem, Oregon, USA.

I understand that you are overseas. However, I was hoping that you may be
able to help me locate someone in the United States in the Pacific Northwest
region familiar with Austins of this era. Please feel free to email me
anytime if you have any suggestions, etc.
Thank you in advance for your time and effort!

Re: Help! with restoration of nippy

Welcome Wolfe, first thing are you in touch/contact with:-

The 'Pacific Bantam Clubs', based in Pasadena, but on West Coast at least and has a geographicly wide membership (email njbooth@earthlink.net). This use to be part of the www.wmspear.com/bantam set-up, but going to this web address gets a '404' error.

The latest Association Grey Book has a very good article by W M Spear and mentions both the 'American Bantam Society' (ABS) and the 'American Austin Bantam Society' (AABS) but there are no email addresses given, at least not that I can see with a quick look. They all will have UK Austins in their membership and hopefully somebody willing to help.

OTHERWISE (this is the second thing) it's back to Chris Goulds excellent book on Nippy's etc.

Not a lot of help I know but a pointer....

Re: Help! with restoration of nippy

Found the American Bantam Society - try their web site at http://www.americanbantam.com/ It would appear to cover both the ABS and AABS clubs, there are links on the home page and a special Links page.

There's plenty there to look at and hopefully, Wolfe, you'll get some help from that quarter.

Re: Help! with restoration of nippy

Wolfe, let us know what happens, if you get fixed up.

.....Approaching their Twilight Years, I think most of us are into them already, but just coming to the Prime of our Twilight Years, a dangerous time for those around us.

Re: Help! with restoration of nippy

Received by mail and pasted: Sorry for the delayed response. Work has been keeping me from getting back
to you.
I am amazed (but not surprised, I guess) by the outpouring of help I have
received so far! It really is amazing! My father and I have talked about the
possibility of chronicling all of this and submitting it as a documentary to
be shown for television. I will keep you posted!
Thank you for posting my email on your website's forum. The responses have
been very helpful. I look forward to working with you and others through
your website in getting this restoration done if/when you are available for
any advice and direction.

Sincerely;

Wolf

Re: Help! with restoration of nippy

Dear Wolfe
You should get in touch with Bob Anderson of 228 West Russell Street, Barrington, Ill 60010.
A few years ago I and others advised him on trim, colours, details etc and he was so delighted to take
a First Place Win in Class P1 at the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours...it does not get any better than that
does it!
It is the rare left-hand drive export version of the Type 65/Nippy in cherry red (i.e. I cannot recall if ally/steel, but Bob calls it Nippy so should be steel bodied)), and from his pictures it is absolutely superb. The left-hand steering gives you something to think about when designing the exhaust pipe but I recall we found some illustrations of this to put Bob on the right track. I recall also a primrose yellow LHD 65/Nippy that had then recently photo-featured in a car mag. Bob should have all this info.

My regards to Bob if and when you make contact.
