Amber lights on Tractors etc....

Rather than clog up another thread, here is some infor for you on the subject.

The requirement for a vehicle (not just an agricultural tractor) to display an amber warning beacon relates to the use of such a vehicle on a 'de-restricted, ie 70mph speed limit, Dual Carriageway' and is required to be displayed by anything which has a maximum speed of 25mph - some larger tractors will be exempt as they can do 30mph or more.

The requirements covered by the legislation are as follows:

SCHEDULE 16

1. Number:
Sufficient to satisfy the requirements of paragraph 3

2. Position-
Every warning beacon shall be so mounted on the vehicle that the centre of the lamp is at a height not less than 1200 mm above the ground.

3. Angles of visibility-
The light shown from at least one beacon (but not necessarily the same beacon) shall be visible from any point at a reasonable distance from the vehicle or any trailer being drawn by it.

4. Markings:
No requirement

5. Size of illuminated area:
No requirement

6. Colour:
Blue, amber, green or yellow in accordance with Regulation 11

7. Wattage:
No requirement

8. Intensity:
No requirement

9. Electrical connections:
No requirement

10. Tell-tale:
No requirement

11. Other requirements-
The light shown by any one warning beacon shall be displayed not less than 60 nor more than 240 equal times per minute and the intervals between each display of light shall be constant.

Information taken from the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations.

Re: Amber lights on Tractors etc....

Nothing to do with Amber lights, but imagine if all the HGV's stuck to their non-dual carriageway speed limit = 40mph, that would take the pressure/curses off the poor old tractor drivers.
