Lucas Ignition Numbers

I would like some clarification on the correct Lucas part numbers for DJ and DK distributor contact sets.

My home-made list gives me

DJ (Manual) = ST 361 = 400833

DK (Automatic) = 404435

Why? I recently bought a set, advertised as A7, and the Lucas number is 407050, these are similar to the DK ones except there is not a loop at the end of the spring to go over the post, just a vertical slot on the flat spring face. As they will not simply fit either DJ or DK dizi's, does anyone know what they will fit, so I can target a market to sell them in!

The full list of numbers I have is

This is list was compiled from Lucas parts lists of the 30's. The Xxxx Numbers followed by Q/H are current Quentin Hazell cross-Ref numbers.

Any corrections, additions etc would be most welcome.

PS - my list at home looked a lot neater than this in MSWord doc.

Re: Lucas Ignition Numbers

Sandy,
On Ebay there is a set of Lucas 407050 contact points offered with a very full list of applications - That should help you to sell your unwanted sets. Item number 8005090131.
Regarding possible alterations to your list, which I think is very useful, I believe you have listed the Carbon Brush + Spring correctly with Lucas number 404435. However, I feel certain that a Contact Set for the DK4A should be Lucas Number 400415 and not 404435, which is identical to the number for the Carbon Brush + Spring ? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Lucas Ignition Numbers

Hello Sandy,
I am a 100 miles away from my Lucas Catalogues at the present moment.

I suspect there are some anomolies in your list.

I think I can say, even from my unreliable memory, that Lucas 407050 Contacts are used in DKY type Lucas Distributors. They are the type which fitted Morris 8 Series E, Morris Minor Side Valve, some similar period MG's etc. In Australia they are what we commonly lable as the "L10" contact set.

I will contact you off line when I get home and send you a complete listing.

I have a virtually complete set of Lucas Master Catalogues from 1930 through to the mid 1960's

One of my little projects is to make up an application table for Austin Seven

I have also doen some work on Distributors and Advance Curve Specs which is very nearly completed.

I hope the above info is of some interim assistance

Regards

Barry R.

Re: Lucas Ignition Numbers

Many thanks, it is now certain the 407050's are NOT A7's. sold a pup there on Ebay. But I now know what they will fit, so back on they go, correctly identified.

I think I had a senior moment with the DK numbers, it happens sometimes, I probably was doing data processing at the time and just became number blind.

I'll let the thread run for a few days then update my primary list.
