Updraft Carburettors

I have a suspicion that my Chummy may be losing rather than using petrol.Does anyone have any thoughts on how to check and, more importantly, how to set up the float needle etc so that it is in the correct position. I particularly ask this because I bought a bronze top for my carb to replace the Mazak one and I had to adjust the collar that engages with the two arms touching the float (hope that makes sense). The adjustment was done by guesswork and it would be nice to know if there is a 'proper' way of doing it.

Re: Updraft Carburettors

I have some notes I made some years ago when I wrestling with the same problem. If you confirm the length of your needle and the present distance from the bottom of the collar to the point of it.and.. the diamentions of the float I will let you know what I have to help... Mac .

Hello Brian
Suggest you try:

http://www.windling.demon.co.uk/SolentA7/technical.htm

It is a "Technical" item on the unofficial Solent Club site.

It has a quite comprehensive dissertation on Zenith 22FZ fettling and float level adjustment.

Brian,
Where are you located? I have made a test rig to do exactly this job. I am in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

Re: Re: Updraft Carburettors

Many thanks for the offer Bryan but I am in Derbyshire(Iwas going to say 'unfortunately' but I like it here)
My thanks also to Mac & Barry... I'm just going to go out and dismantle the carb
