Austin 7 1929 Chummy Car Points

I am having trouble locating a set of points for a Austin 7 1929 Chummy.
Apparently in 1929 the distributor used was a C.A.V. type, with the condenser on the outside of the distributor
I need a (new/second hand) set of points.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in anticipation

Re: Austin 7 1929 Chummy Car Points

Hi David,

I used to have a CAV distributor on my 1929 RK saloon but as I never found a source for new points for this type of distributor I now use the later Lucas DJ distibutor.

I think your only source of relacement points is to find another CAV distributor for spares, unless someone else knows better !!!.

Hell from OZ

For what it is worth, you need the "ST360" Contact Breaker ( a Lucas part number ) The distributor is generally regarded as the Model DS4. Whilst nominally made by CAV, Lucas then owned that comapny anyway and there was a bit of "badge engineering" going on even in those days. Have you thought about talking to one of the specialist magneto rebuilders? There is just a chance that they may be able to put new contacts on your old set. Think that Distributor Caps for this Distributor are now very hard to track down as well. Malcolm's counsel may well be your best bet.
