Later type clutch

Carrying on from the clutch thickness post which seems to be solved now....

The later clutch has the friction linings riveted to the centre drive plate/disc. The drive plate must therefore have a greater mass at its periphery, and I am thinking maybe it would have an effect on gearchanging?
Does anyone know why the clutch was changed to this type?

Regards

Steve

Re: Later type clutch

I would think that the Borg and Beck clutch would make clutch lining replacement a faster and easier service job, though this would be an unusual reason nowadays for a manufacturer to make such a change!

I suspect the mass of the clutch lining is trivial in relation to the flywheel/clutch cover, so while I think you are right in theory, Steve, I have never noticed any difference in gear changing with the different clutch plates.
