More on DFLs

Re the thread below DFL Dynamo Minutia, I have just stripped an unmolested DFL example; the result does not match ‘Woodrow’ for either the ‘DF’ or the ‘DFL’. The findings are as follows: Gear end: Steel washer up against the windings first, followed by felt seal then the bearing, spacer, key and gear. Brush end: steel washer up against the windings, felt seal, another steel washer then the bearing. A friend will be stripping another two shortly and will report back with the findings

Re: More on DFLs

Ian, are any of the washers dished or dimpled? And if so, which way round are they?

David

Re: Re: More on DFLs

David, Yes they are, will check tomorrow if I get the time.

Re: Re: Re: More on DFLs

Have been in touch with my friend who has also just stripped another DFL, all seems to be the same as the one I have reported on above. Yes David the washers are ‘dished’, both towards the bearing with the felt seal sitting in the ‘dish’ so the inside diameter of the felts do not touch the shaft itself. Hard to see what the extra washer does on the brush end though!
