Stories to be told

Looking through the new Canning Brown book, a paragraph on Page 272 caught my eye. It refers to the opening of the Austin production line in the premises of Lincoln & Nolan in Dublin in June 1936. The factory had been specially built to conform to the very latest standards and several lines were installed to build the full range of Austin cars.

I have to admit that I have never heard of this. I've looked through the various Wyatt books etc. and can find no reference. Does anybody know some more (no doubt Stuart Ulph will give me chapter and verse when I see him tomorrow night)? Anybody got a Dublin built car?

Also, the entry of an Ulster in the 1932 Mille Miglia by Scuderia Ferrari/Enzo Ferrari is a story that warrants expansion!!

Re: Stories to be told

Got me stumped, Steve, but have found a little info here:

Had I found this before going to the pub last night my reputation would have been saved!

Re: Stories to be told

Meant to add to the above, scroll down the page to footnote 2 for an explanation of the political reasons behind the factory's origin

Re: Re: Stories to be told

That, at least, confirms the story Stuart. I did wonder why Austin would bother with a production line so near to home. That's now explained as well.

Look forward to hearing more when you've made your 'phone call.
