Re-plating head lamp reflectors

Does anyone have experience re-plating headlamp reflectors. There is a company in the states (Caswell) who sell a plating kit which seems pretty neat. They say you can plate silver with a swab connected to the power supply.
This sounds much better than a bath but I wonder how good it is.
Thanks
Pat

Re: Re-plating head lamp reflectors

I don't know about the DIY approach but I can recommend Vintage Headlamp Restorations of Sheffield. They repaired a pair of headlamp reflectors with broken bulbholders and a couple of splits on the rims, then resilvered and polished them all for £80.

Know them well. Just round the corner from where I used to work. Reputable small business. Good 'tea spot'.

Re: Re: Re-plating head lamp reflectors

Have to say that I don't like the modern 'silver' plating. I have my reflectors bright nickeled. It has a slightly more 'mellow' colour but is much more appropriate to our cars. The differnce in light is minimal and it is also cheaper.
