Ign switch

Hi folks, any ideas on where I could get an Ignition switch for my 1931 coil ign APD Tourer in UK.

Thanks, Stephen.

Re: Ign switch

They often appear on ebay or perhaps one of the usual supliers such as Wayne Rushin of Midshire Sevens in Leicester or John Firth in Yorkshire to name a couple may have one. Or, of couse, you could try a wanted ad in another part of this site.
Best of luck with finding one.

Hello Stephen,

In addition to other suggestions the following might be worth looking at:

Re: Re: Ign switch

Stephen,
Have just realised that if you are looking for a switch for a 1931 model, it is most likely a Lucas SM5 not a PLC type, so maybe my post is relevant

Re: Re: Re: Ign switch

Hi, Thanks Barry you have given me plenty to look at, the present switch has a spade key which often falls out as you drive making life interesting at the end of a trip.

Hello Stephen,

Well at that rate you do have the PLC type switch so my info may be OK after all.

Re: Ign switch

I stand to be corrected but I am sure that the correct ignition switch for a 1931 car should be the SM5 type (no key). If I am correct then you could buy one and sell your existing switch thereby not spending too much money.

Re: Re: Ign switch

Steve - I'd be very surprised if Brian isn't correct. Meantime tie a piece of string to your key with the other end attached to a convenient knob, if it escapes you don't have to go searching. At journey's end, if you've left it attached to the knob, tuck it up behind the dash over a convenient wire/cable. Cheers, Bill in Oz
