1936 Austin 7 6volt battery

Hi, I have just purchased a 1936 Austin 7 Ruby, it needs some renovation changing the colour back to its original etc...

I'm currently working on the engine and need some recommended contacts. I'm currently trying to source a new 6 volt battery at a reasonable price, can anybody recommend any suppliers?

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

.

Paul,

I do not know what part of the country you are in, but I purchased one, off the shelf, only ten days ago from Barden Energy Solutions at Fareham. I believe that they do mail order.

The relevant web page is ........

http://www.barden-uk.com/6-12-volt-classic-hard-rubber-batteries.html

The cost was 45 pounds plus the Very Awful Tax. The part number for a Chummy is 421, but all the measurements are on the page.

Hi Paul
Try Yellow Pages for a local supplier They retail for about £40/£45. If not look in one of the clasic car mag's there are one or two suppliers who do mail order.

Re: Re: 1936 Austin 7 6volt battery

I have not long sourced one, all the local motor factors could get one, as said before ask for a code 421 or if the snotty youth behind the counter is stupid and say a Austin 7 isnt in 'the book', tell him its for an MGB. I found the prices vary a lot, most expensive was £79, cheapest I could get over the counter was £54 from Motor World.

However Mick at the Seven Workshop's northern division got me one, i think for £43 all in (collection), though I had to wait untill he had been down south for it. It was a super old fashioned looking one in black plastic.

Re: 1936 Austin 7 6volt battery

Chris Dalby (Austin Seven Service) at Kirby Wiske, Thirsk has the proper ones with black cases and exposed terminals in stock. 01845 587201 He's always given me very good service, but on batteries remember no one is going to be too keen on sending acid by post so my advice would be pick your nearest A7 specialist and pick it up in person. They all advertise in PWA7Club magazine, Association mag., etc. Buying from an A7 specialist helps to keep them in business ensuring a reliable supply of spares for us all.

Re: Re: 1936 Austin 7 6volt battery

I got one delivered from Lincon Batteries, I had to add the acid myself once it was unpacked.
It is one of the original exposed terminal types as well.

Putting 6v Battery into the 'Search' window at top of page will bring up 5 topics, bottom one by Naomi, says it all..... "421"

At those prices I'm glad I went to 12 volts many years ago. Dave

In France you can get 6volt batteries for tractors that can produce 600amps!! mind you they wont fit into your battery box!
