Front spring packing

I have dismantled the front suspension on my Arrow replica. This has an early Ruby chassis with later Girling axle. There is no packing present on the spring (Woodruf refers to packing).
Should there be, what size and material is it and where should it be located?
Also what size and type are the threads on the large nuts on the radius arms please?
Many thanks.

Hugh

Have a look at this link...

It may help to look at the John Bowring articles, "front end 1 and 2".

Re: Front spring packing

G'day,
Radius arm nuts are 5/8 UNS (Unified special) "Admiralty Thread" 16 TPI (just to be different!).

Cheers,
DG

Re: Re: Front spring packing

Funny, but in about 50 years' involvement I've yet to see a vintage-type front spring packing. I only know what they look like from the Parts Books. Apparently the springs with those removed/lost seem to be getting along okay without them. If you're referring to the aluminium block on the Ruby-type cars fitted as a packing, do without it, as it is so thick it lessens the purpose of the lowered front end (assuming that's what your Arrow replica or any decent Special has). Re: Front spring packing

I am with Bill on this . However the 7 Workshop used to do it . Worth a ring?
