Front Shock Absorber

I've just been dismantling what appears to be an unadulterated front shock absorber, no wear, stove enameling ok,ish. My guess is that it's about 1930/1. The centre bolt and spring plate is a riveted assembly (BU5), the centre bushes appear to be lignum vitae (BU33/34) and the friction discs are made from a natural timber (BU9/10). Is it Poplar?

Re: Front Shock Absorber

Hi Graham,

I believe it is actually apple wood

Re: Front Shock Absorber

Nice to have the original bits still intact. The new bushes are white nylon and the friction discs are made of modern Brake type friction material. I have in the past seen them made of Ply wood and even hardboard! and the bushes were not even fitted.
