DFL Dynamo Felt Seals

Anyone know who stocks them? Full set needed.

Re: DFL Dynamo Felt Seals

I had a drive end felt for a DF from Chris Dalby at Kirby Wiske about 12 months ago. Presume the DFL is similar. Fitting can be bit of a pain. They are trapped between two tin pressings which are rivetted together.

I found the easiest way was to cut out the rivets, open out the rivet holes to take 2BA screws then solder 2BA nuts to the inside of the inner tin pressing centred on the rivet holes. Oil the felt well then assemble the two tin pressings with the felt between, but insert the drive gear through the felt before tightening the 2BA screws otherwise you'll never get the gear through the felt.

Offer the assembly up to the dynamo and insert the shaft through the drive gear whilst simultaneously pressing the tin bits over the end of the dynamo.

I did this after I had problems with so called sealed bearings leaking oil but have had no trouble since. Dynamo interior is now as dry as a bone.

As usual the original design works best.
