Hi, I've been given (by my Dad, 84) a '27 Chummy, was going okay until a few weeks back, when he had it out on the road his foot slipped off the clutch, car lurched forward and that was it... no go. I now have it and the job to get her on the road again. I have the bak end off the floor and have drive to the drive shaft, I can turn the wheels with nothing to the d/shaft,diff , axles ???? before I take out the back end I hope some of you guys can help.

Hi Geoff,

sounds like a halfshaft has broken.

You need to split the axle to check and replace this. What part of th country are you in and we can point you towards a friendly club for assistance.

Before you tear into your axle check the woodruff keys on the axles at the hubs to make sure you just haven't sheared one off.

It sounds like my experience a couple of months ago with my recently acquired 1929 Chummy. It was a woodruff key and reasonably easy (and low cost) to replace.
