Engine Numbers

I have come across an engine , magneto type, no M27245. can any one tell me the date of manufacture.Also is there any way of establishing what chassis it was fitted to originally?

You will find a list of engine and chassis numbers with approximate dates (to the month rather than the day) in Bob Wyatt's book "The Austin Seven".

I would approximate this engine as around late 1926, hopefully Sandy can be more specific for you.

Engine 27245 is/was on a A7 special, Ch.19216, Reg No YMD 706 - that's not a 1926 number (July Dec 1952, Middlesex), the engine is from circa Oct/Nov 1926, looking at concurrent numbers, the chassis is circa June 1926.
