I was recommended to this forum as a fount of knowledge!I have had a 1938 ruby for about 20 years and I want to paint it.I understand it is Ruby red. Is this right? can anyone tell me the paint formula? Thanks

In my 1936 Austin Catalogue there are two reds: Maroon, like dark red wine, and cherry red, like the brilliant red of our fire engines.

Colours listed in 'Original Austin Seven' by Rinsey Mills for:

1938 Ruby are: Royal Blue, Princess Blue, Ash Grey, Black, Maroon, Bluebird Blue.

1938 Ruby fixed-head are: Royal Blue, Maroon, Black.

The Cherry Red Helmut mentions, which was available on Ruby's from 1936, was dropped, according to Mills book at the end of 1937. Ruby Red was never listed as a colour, again according to Mills.

No paint formula given.

you will find an extract from an original Austin Document which sets out the colour scheme for the Mark 2 Rubies etc. Unfortunately I don't think any of the paint formulations for the later cars are available ( but I could be wrong ! )
