Freeze plug replacement

I need to replace the small freeze plug on the head near the number 1 spark plug. What's the best way to remove the old one (itself apparently a replacement which appears to be poorly set and therefore leaking). And what is the best way to set in the new one (I fear hitting it with the wrong thing or hitting it too hard and cracking the head.)

Advice welcome.

Thanks
David

Re: Freeze plug replacement

Hi David,

I punch a hole through it with a pointed punch and lever it out. Clean up the faces with a wire brush or the like. Next place a little silcon sealant around the face and push the new core plug in place. Tap it with the round end of a small hammer and it should seal.

Good luck

Metal must be pretty soft. I'll give it a try, thanks for the advice, Ruairidh.
