Radiator badges

Very anoracky. when did the wide spaced bolts on the rad badge stop. My 1922 and 1924 have them but later cars don't seem to. Also when did the german silver badges stop and plated brass start? Oh and while i'm about it does anyone know of a copy of the first edition of the parts list publication 353?

Re: Radiator badges

Hi Barry my Chummy 63712 (28) has the solid German silver badge, reverse catch, horn button and door handles I have no reason to think it is not the original badge.

Re: Re: Radiator badges

Hi Barry . The original badges were 3 3/4" wide with bolt hole centres @ 2 3/16", changed with the taller, plated shell to same width but hole centres @ 1 1/2" apart. Have never noted down when German silver change occured, so leave to others for assistance. Sorry no 353, but can snail-mail you copies of Handbook 352 & Spare Parts List 353b - if of any use, let's know your address. Cheers, Bill in Oz

Malcolm has other spare parts lists etc.

As you can see 353a spare parts list is there and will be uploaded to the A7CA website in the near future for all to download...meantime(Barry), get in touch via my e-mail. It is more than evident that a lot of photocopies exist in the above list. Malcolm and I would prefer to scan originals and if you can help us in this task (i.e. if you have an original of the "photocopies" mentioned above and would be willing to scan this in or let us do it for you) please get in touch...

Cheers

Ruairidh

Re: Re: Radiator badges

Hi again Barry. Re-reading my message I've realised I haven't said that I can only offer you photocopies, you may misunderstand copies. Now reading Ruairdh's list you may be accommodated closer to home. Cheers, Bill

Barry Clarke wrote: "Thanks for the information but I'm still not clear when the closer fitting bolts came in. I know that there were such badges in german silver, But when? Also parts list, I have 353a which is undated but described as Second Edition so First Edition was presumably 353. I know such a thing exists and dearly want to see it (and preferably photocopy it)."

My May 1925 Chummy (10135) has the wider spaced (2 3/16") radiator badge mounting screws. Hope this helps. Perhaps others with original Chummys could venture out to the garage and measure theirs?

And while we're on the subject of when things changed, when was the pressed steel sump introduced? My Chummy has an aluminium sump, but I don't know if this is correct because the lists of Spare Parts don't show any change in material. Presumably the deep head sump bolts were only needed with the steel sump?
