Can someone identify this Austin 7 for me?

Good day,

I'm a freelance writer creating profiles of classic cars for a client's rally page. He's not given me much information to go on, so I'm having to do a lot of research. One of the cars I'm profiling is an Austin 7 "boat tail" which I know is not an actual model of 7 but rather a body feature. I know the 7 I'm looking at is in the Sport category, and I thought it might be a Nippy, but I'm not sure at all. The photo is here: http://restored-classics.com/capricornia/rally1/images/austin18.gif
If anyone can help me put a name to this car, I'd be eternally grateful!
Thanks so much,

-Kelsie

This looks to be a home-made body.

Re: Can someone identify this Austin 7 for me?

It looks very well put-together for a home-made body. Could it be Australian coach-built?

The Aussie coach-built is a possibility, as this is an Aussie rally. But...what does coach-built mean? : )

Thanks for your answers!

Re: Can someone identify this Austin 7 for me?

In Austin 7 circles, 'coach-built' refers to bodywork that was fitted by a specialist coachbuilding company as opposed to standard factory bodywork.

Re: Re: Can someone identify this Austin 7 for me?

There were many coach-builders in Australia fitting their distinctive sports bodies to Austin Sevens (Meteors, Wasps, Aces, etc), as most cars (of any make)that came here before WW2 came only in chassis form due to high tariffs on complete cars. (Actually the 20s Chummies came with wings, floorpan and scuttle, the rest built here). I very much doubt that this featured car is one of them as it's different to anything I've seen or read about. More probably a well-made, home built special. Suggest if featuring Austin Sevens you stick to more convential, recognisable models. Cheers, Bill in Oz.

P.S. Try conventional !! Cheers, Bill in Oz
