Converting to 12v

I am planning a conversion to 12v for various reasons in including upgrading the lights so I can see. I am ok with the coil/fuel gauge/wiper motor issues and read that the starter motor will be ok at 12v.

Can any one confirm what needs to be done regarding the dynamo / cut out box. I have read a lot about converting to 2 brushes?

Check out this thread. I successfully made the change to 12v using earlier this year and so far as the dynamo is concerned only required bringing the third brush back to keep the output down:

Re: Converting to 12v

Ian, it can be done very simply, or you can get very involved. The simple way is to use a 12v version of the existing cut-out and then add resistors in series with the fuel gauge ( if you have one ) and the wiper ( if yours is electric ). Change the coil and bulbs to 12v and there you have it.

I have been 12v since the 2000 Jogle with no problems.
