Continental Tour

I have some photos of Sammy Davies on a prolonged Continental Tour on behalf of Austins in 1926 in a Chummy reg no ON 3023 and logically the single rear lamp has been mounted on the nearside. Was there any requirement to do this at the time and what happened when they got back to Dover?

Re: Continental Tour

In the 1920s various accessory suppliers sold a small bracket that bolted on to the nearside of the car, this had a bayonet lamp connection with a Bakelite plug on a chain that closed it off when in England, when touring you just removed the plug and connected your offside tail lamp to it. As part of the set up you needed to mod the original lamp to have a bayonet connection. If anyone is interested I have one fitted to my Fabric Saloon and could post a pic.
