1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber

I have a 1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber trying to find more info if anyone knows much appreciated

Location: Muswellbrook NSW Australia

Re: 1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber

Try the following:

The Vintage Minor Register - http://vintageminor.co.uk

The Morris Register (in the UK) - http://morrisregister.co.uk

The Morris Register of South Australia - http://morrisregistersa.org/About-us.php

If you let me have details of the chassis number and any other info about the car and possibly a photo, I can mention it on the members only Morris Register Forum (I'm a Morris Register member - as well as owning a basket case collection of Austin 7 bits, I also own a 1936 Morris 8 Tourer).

Hi Shane,

This is an Austin Seven forum. The suggested Morris contacts will possibly give some advice on your car.

Have you tried-

http://carclubs.shannons.com.au/morrisregisternsw/

in NSW, or

http://www.moreg.org.au/

in Victoria.

Re: 1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber

Hi Shane,

As Tony has rightly said we shouldn't really be discussing Morris vehicles on here, as it's a specifically Austin Seven Forum - I'll get my knuckles rapped by the management !

Given that your Minor entered Australia as a new chassis and running gear for Holden to body, then it's unlikely that anyone in the UK will be able to offer any information about its history as a hill climber in Australia. The links to Australian based Morris Register Clubs would be your best bet for any competition history from 1930 onward.

I really think you should speak with Ian Grace, administrator of the Vintage Minor Register - see my link above. Although Ian's a Brit, he's U.S. based and has contacts all around the world - in my opinion he's arguably 'THE' expert on the vintage Morris Minor.

All I can tell you is that M5240 is a 1929 model Minor - the very first chassis was M101 (1930 season models started at chassis number M12739, so it's not 1930) It would originally have had an 847cc O.H.V engine - I have no idea what 1000cc S.V. you have in it now, as the 1931 to 34 Minor had an 847cc side valve engine and its successor the Morris 8 from 1934 to 1948 had a 918cc side valve.

I strongly suggest that you join the Vintage Minor Register Forum, you don't need to be a club member to do so - ask Ian Grace, he'll advise you - he's the boss. The VMR Forum contains lots of photos of members restorations of O.H.V. engined Minors - lots of close up shots of the engine, so you'll know what to look out for.

O.H.V. engines are not that easy to find, even here in the UK and rarely come cheap as they're essentially the same engine (with detail differences) that were used in early MG M Type. MG parts usually come at premium prices, at least they do in the UK.

As I said above, join the VMR Forum, all the information and advice you'll need can be gleaned from there. Just like this Forum it's very friendly, great bunch of people, I occasionally post there myself, you'll be able to upload your photos there too.

Best of luck with your restoration.

Re: 1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber

I only have the official VMR contact address which is on the VMR site welcome page that my previous link took you to.

vintageminor@gmail.com

The Vintage Minor Register is run entirely by Ian Grace, no one else, so contacting VMR via the address above will go direct to him. Remember he's on the west coast of the USA - time zone wise and could (for all I know) be on summer vacation at the moment, so if you don't get an immediate reply, just be patient, he will get back to you.

Re: 1930 Morris Minor Hill Climber

Hi Shane,

Check your e-mail in box - have e-mailed you. Briefly, M5240 was the first of a batch of ten driving chassis exported to Oz in April 1929. More in my e-mails.

Cheers,

Ian Grace
