Having the makings of a special in my garage I decided to build a special and put another seven back on the road. I had all but the body tub, looking at eBay last week there was a Mk I Paxton for sale which I got for a reasonable price. I did build a Paxton 20 odd years ago that eventually ended up in Germany DJK 273 but that was a MkII.
I wonder does anybody know how many of these bodies were built, the one I have just purchased is 003 and my previous was 24 - 25c would be interested to know. Perhaps the Specials register might know.

a very good friend of mine (and Mac), Michael Speith, owns a green Paxton near Tubingen, Germany. Might this be your old car?

I will try and find photos of it, Michael must have owned it for over 20 years now.

Somewhere I have an article about their history, I will try and look it out, it may have the answer to your question.

hi derek,

i supplied many parts for a customer around 10 years ago building a paxton.

he had 3 of the 4 original wings.

so he contacted the original manufacturer of the paxton.who i beleive at the time still lived in london.

sorry to say he couldn`t get a 4th wing.

but the point is if the original creator of the paxton is still out there 10 years on it may be worth contacting him for more details.

perhaps someone knows the details of his were abouts,or are we to late

Was the Paxton the body produced by Richard Mawer in Lincolnshire around the late 1980's?

if my memory serves me right.and i am entering the age were one side of the brain is contradicting the other.

the customer told me the bodys were called paxton after an area in south london.wich is were they were made.

but if someone is better informed,please correct me.

perhams someone has old adverts for the bodies being sold and the adress will be on it.

From an article in the April 1987 "Automobile" the Paxton body was built by Colin Westwood in his South London workshop,nine of them having being built from 1985 to the date the article was published.This particular article is about the first one built for and with the help of Derek Wassell,"an experienced Austin Seven owner and restorer" The basis was a very derelict Pearl Cabriolet and was built in a week(?) in time for a 750 Motor Club test day.It weighed about 6cwt.

I have been clearing out the garage and car effects of Ken & Marion Hart, the former owners of my 1931 Tourer, Daisy. Ken has a 4-page typewritten 'brochure' for the Paxton (dated May 1985) - description, photos of tub and assembled, specification and dimensions, and price (£310 complete)

Back in the mid 1980s 01-761-**** numbers were correct for Gypsy Hill and west Norwood.
I believe these numbers became 020-8761-****

There is no Westward in the phone book for that address and No.7 Paxton Mews is occupied by
Parkside Fabrications
