Bruised or damaged threads

Having looked at various things on the forum I noticed the one about hub threads. This is just a little tip of mine that can be sometimes be used to repair a damaged thread axle or otherwise. I used this method to repair the thread which holds the flywheel tight on the crankshaft. First get a good nut that you know is right for the thread you wish to repair. Cut the nut in half across the the flats. Then place the two halves together onto the threads in a place where the shaft threads are good. This is usually at the oppersite end away from where you start to turn a nut on. Place a ring spanner over the two halves of nut to keep them together on the threats then wind them off as you would do undoing a nut. You will find that it brings back into line any bruised or damaged threads.
