Windscreen holding bolts

On my 1928 Chummy the windscreen pillars are held in place by 5/16" bsf hex bolts.
The top two have a chamfer on the heads. I can't see what that would be for and wonder if the bolts are original anyway as they look slightly ,dare I say, crude!
