The fixing nut is wrong it should be a domed nut with a slot, nickel plated

In the fifth photo down - is the actuating cam (with the square hole) installed back to front?
The old household Carpenter door locks here have a similar cam mechanism which from memory usually has the straight side pushing on the tongue.

just a quick update on my actuating cam, which I tried today the other way round as you describe above, not a success on mine as it held the catch in slightly meaning it could be pulled open easily. I reverted, all good again.

Anyone know where suitable replacement lock springs can be obtained - one of mine is wrong and occasionally gets jammed!

Could you not buy some suitably sized spring steel strip from a Model Engineer Supplier and make one, I am assuming you have the other side to copy?
