My 38 Ruby was running perfectly until a couple of months ago when she started almost petering out on tick over but would then liven back up and so on. Then last weekend she started 3rd time and reversed out of the garage fine, but refused to start 10 mins later!

I have fuel in the bowl but changed the pump diaphragm and cleaned out the housing, cleaned the carb and blew out all jets with an airline ( including the hidden one). Still nothing... checked the spark and number 2 plug was weak so I changed the condenser, dizzy cap just in case, and checked all connections, now she turns over lovely but refuses to start????

I whispered a few choice words to her and she sits now in the garage "thinking about what she's done wrong" - any ideas????

how old is the fuel?

My 7 doesnt like old fuel.

Not as easy to change the fuel with a ruby, buy try filling the carb bowl with some fresh stuff and see if to goes.

Sometimes I put a thimble full of fuel down each bore via the spark plug hole, that will make it start.

I suggest you start by putting the old condenser back, as you at least had some measure of performance before it was changed. Its not unknown for "new" ones to be faulty.

Thanks for the suggestions - I put back the old dizzy cap and she started first time, amazing, so happy she has life once more!!

Took her out for a run and she seems to be 'hunting' for fuel in top gear, tick over is perfect as is 1st 2nd and 3rd gear unless under load in top she just will not pull at all.... any ideas???
