hopefully a good news day

well hopefully this will be good news for the future of austin seven parts being supplied.

steve flake of (quarry engineering). has decided he is no longer in need of his fathers patterns for the austin 7.

as seven county austins we have perchased ALL the patterns today.

which will keep the castings in production for the public to buy,

rather than them being privately bought and never seen again.

there is everything from grasshopper castings, ulster castings. to 3 and 4 speed altos remotes. right down to sumps and water manifolds. around 50 items in total.

i`ll get a list on our site as soon as possible for anyone who is interested.

thanks tony

Thank you for your investment in the future of the Austin Seven movement.

Stuart.

thank you all so far for the encouragement, much appreciated.

and thank you stuart for pointing out the investment.

yes its the largest amount ive ever paid out in one go on austin 7s. that includes the supersports.

and its not finished yet, there is nearly as much again in castings, and machining costs.

however the good news is.

the first item should be sorted by next weekend, hydraulic back plates.

i had to stop stocking these from my previous supplier. although the item was excellent. i was having to pay £55 each, 4 years ago. and the next batch would be more. and selling them at £62.50 each. i had done two sets since on a small batch. and had to sell them at £80 each to make the running around worth wile.

with the new patterns i should have the back plates back on the price list at £60 each.

thank you all tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

Well done Tony I look forward to seeing the full list. How do you plan to handle production, on a supply and demand basis?

Location: New Zealand

Re: hopefully a good news day

Well done Tony. I hope the investment pays off as intended.
Don't for the odd ones amongst us that buy unmachined castings

Best wishes

Charles

Re: hopefully a good news day

hi ian,

supply and demand would be nice.

but casting companies are notoriously slow in production.

so first thing is to get everything on order, and hopefully in stock as a bare casting.

also all the casting from dave and steve were supplied heat treated. which adds to the production times.

i would like to run it the same as it was at quarry engineering.

which means yes charles i will supply unmachined castings. especially for you race boys

i will see if i can produce a list for latter today.

thanks tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

Extraordinary!

Re: hopefully a good news day

Well done Tony. That is a great selection of patterns, I will be in touch soon to discuss several orders.

Re: hopefully a good news day

I photographed this new Grasshopper crankcase and block on his stall at the Spring Autojumble at Beaulieu, 2007.

I wonder what it was used in?

Re: hopefully a good news day

thanks R,

thanks mike, early orders are always good. as i say it will take time to get the casting companies in motion.so i can put early order castings first, i know steve always had people after the ALTOS 4 speed remotes. and i have had 3 requests so far. so they will be one of the first i will be chassing up from the foundry.

and thanks for the pictures henry.

do you have any pictures of quarry engineerings stall fully set out.

it was always a treat to see there stall full of unusual castings etc.

taking pics is something i rarelly get the chance for.

in fact if anyone has pictures of any stall that have set out with austin 7 spares over the years. it would be good to see a thread here full of them.

stalls are something that have really changed in a big way over the years. as availability of parts have changed.

thanks tony

I tried selling the wife before, she came back with £5.50. When I asked who gave her 50p, she said.....

Re: hopefully a good news day

hi stuart,

you know you shouldn`t tempt me into saying something stoopid. i`ll only get into trouble.

most of the list is know on our web site, www.7ca.co.uk heading castings.

most prices are as they were when dave had them on the stall, i`ll see how it goes when the castings start coming in. some prices may have to change.

i have some castings already in stock, from quarry engineering. so pictures will be added soon.

keep watching what we are doing.

thanks tony

Sorry Tony, it wasn't meant as a comment on your prices, rather on my lack of available cash. Its a good job my wife doesn't know anyone who might tell her what I said on here........

Thank you for the bits you sorted out on Monday, spot on thanks. It took Mother 6 hours to get back to Devon!!

Re: hopefully a good news day

Well done Tony. Great to hear that the patterns are in safe hands. All the best.

Re: hopefully a good news day

thank you damian,

stuart, i was thinking more the comments on, offers of women children and body parts.

we do take many forms of payment

tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

some pictures are now on the castings page. to show what we have.

hydraulic backplates went in for machineing today.

and there will be more pics to come.

thanks tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

One of my old motor racing associates used to give you two bills. One was the real one, the other was one you could show to your wife. I always thought that a very good idea.

Re: hopefully a good news day

that sounds excellent alan,

come buy a crankcase for £750.00

i dont mind doing a bill for your better half (£950.00)

tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

Tony

Love the crankcase but it's a step too far for me.

On a picky point is the 3 speed remote pictured actually Eltos?

I through that Eltos' has a separate casting for the "lid" part like this

Charles

Re: hopefully a good news day

The original 3 speed Eltos remote comprised 3 parts bolted together but I do like Tony's one.
I found the original Eltos a pig to set up but Tony's has the setscrew arrangement at the rear which should make fine tuning the change a lot easier.
Sorry Tony, at present I don't have a car to suit but if I did this would be the one!

Location: Melton Mowbray

Re: hopefully a good news day

hi charles,

you are correct its not the eltos, my mistake copying the pattern list.

when the name of who designed them comes to me i`ll make changes.

and never say never.

you wont win races with that attitude

thanks tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

The one I have like Tony's pictures was made by Tony Hutchings I think.

Andy Lowe has asked me to post these for him:

Re: hopefully a good news day

thanks R,

tony hutchings was the name i was thinking of. old age brain freeze preventing me.

and thank you andy for the pictures, they look like they are from 750 beaulieu. some of the last events dave stood with a small stand.

the grasshopper inlets look good. (they are on order) the advantage of this sort of inlet and exhaust, is that you can still get to the tappets to adjust.

would love to see any pictures anyone may have of quarry engineerings set up at september beaulieu.

thank you both, tony

You're not the only person who found the 3 speed Eltos a pig to set up. I think that Dave/Steve Flake made ones that worked out of the box but many others were a labour of love!

It was indeed 2010 Beaulieu 750 MC rally.
"Tony Hutchings" ?? not being mixed up with Richard Hutchings ?? of Aspirations is he

Re: hopefully a good news day

Hi tony

Great stuff. Any photos of the actual patterns, including for the cores, would likely be of considerable interest to many, if you can arrange sometime please.

After recent posts I trust the stock block will be built up maybe .060 around the lower cylinders!

Re: hopefully a good news day

hi bob,

most of the patterns are in the foundry,

some are here though, so i`ll sort some pic`s for you.

i`ll check to see if the block pattern has been oversized, although i dont really see the point. because i already do my own block version. copy of the ulster block, but on an eight stud base. this block has strengthening fins down the lower bore.

so it may make sense to keep the standard replacement block, as austin intended. that should bore to +60.

although please understand there are no garantees for over sizes.
some original austin 7 blocks go pourus at +20. i`ve even had one that was pourus from new std.

my own block have been bored and run at +100. when we cut the samples in half it was felt we could comfortably bore to +120. but again there are no garantees all blocks will bore out the same.

we will now have 3 different blocks on offer, standard, 8 stud ulster, and grasshopper.

thanks tony

Re: hopefully a good news day

Thanks tony

Your succinct and complete responses always very much appreciated.

Photos of the cores of no real relevance to potential buyers but many may not be familiar with casting practice and may be intrigued.

I made quite a few,3 and 4 sp and yes they were a pain to get working properly!
