Engine high/low

Hi I have a 1930 swb special which I am going to build a spare engine for. the current motor is rigidly mounted and I have acquired a later crankcase for a rubber mounted two bearing engine M218343.Is it possible to use this with packing pieces replacing the rubber mounts?,should the flange be flush with the chassis? I have tried "search" but probably entered the wrong words!. thanks ,phil.

Re: Engine high/low

I'd just fit the later engine with the correct rubber mounts. It will only sit about 1/2" higher. The later engine crankcase sits 3/4" forward on the mountings,(To allow a 4 sp box).So you might have to change the fan pulley if its close to the rad.

Re: Engine high/low

Thanks, does this mean I will have to use a four speed box and propshaft as well then?.cheers,phil.

Re: Engine high/low

You can use a 3speed box, but you will need a longer propshaft.

Re: Engine high/low

Or a spacer, and the 4sp clutch and pedal shaft levers.
You may get away with the propshaft if you have flat springs.

You could have trouble with the nose piece alignment through the radiator!
