anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

I note that one of the PWA7 gatherings is/was at Yeadon, W Yorks.
Apparently my car was one of 6 bought from a collector at Otley in 2008, presumably someone who was into Sevens. Anyone remember networking with such a person, or who perhaps has one of the other cars sold through Robert Snow? There may be someone who has worked on red WP6134 Nippy Special up there, or remembers something from its 10 years up there 98-08. (I may also have some service history receipts that pertain to another of the cars, with the name 'Randall' associated!)

I think you, perhaps, mean Nigel Snow. Very well respected long time dealer in Sevens from Stokesley, North Yorkshire.

Can you say who the previous owner of the car in Otley was?

Bl**dy spam filter won't let me post his website.

Search for Nigel Snow Austin 7 on Google and you will find it.

I bought my (now sadly sold) chummy from him a few years ago.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Sorry - was reading from the V5 and he put Robert before the Nigel.

Yes, I've spoken to him, but he bought from someone who didn't actually have much to do with the cars, I think. Information just disappears when its not written down.

The Otley person was 'Norris'.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

I think the collector/dealer in Otley would be John Kelly who was based in nearby Pool in Wharfedale.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Ahah - getting warm, yes! but that surname doesn't tie - address does.
I didn't want to put things on the forum just out of respect for others' privacy.
Is it worth me speaking to you, Malcolm?

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

I'd agree with Malcolm (unsurprisingly!!) but I think John Kelly had cleared out all his cars long before 2008.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

perhaps to Norris then, in same village...?

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

I never had anything to do with John Kelly as he was active before I got seriously involved with Sevens.
At the time there was quite a local mafia in the A7 world within a 5 mile radius of Otley. Great A7 enthusiasts like Geoff Winder and David Laxton who between themselves had some very interesting cars pass through their hands.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Ken Norris now sadly no longer with us, had a collection of sevens and was based at Pool in Wharfedale.
I still remember the excellent barbeque we attended after a run he once organised for the PWA7C West Yorks group.

I think his sons disposed of the cars a few years ago.

Of course Phil!! I didn't remember the surname but I do remember Ken - and the BBQ He wasn't actually a member of PWA7C. The membership was always in his wife's name. Looking in a 2000 PW Membership list, they have three cars listed. 1928 Chummy, UI 1965, 1932 Sports, MFF 260 and a 1934 Tourer, WP 6134 - the car that this is about.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Oh well, no further forward, but thanks all. Perhaps one of his mates will remember it.
Yes, in wife's name.

That would be two years after he bought it. It does have 'Tourer' on logbook. The mileage on the mileometer hasn't changed since the MOT in '99 so it must have been overhauled but never finished.

Interesting today, taking paint layers off the steering column bracket - red - orange - blue - black... in direct support of the colour changes noted on the logbook!

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Here is Ken and his wife Betty with another Seven that was affectionately known as the "Fire Engine"

And another of his Chummy.

And his Ulsteroid that could never quite keep up with my RTC.

Come to think of it I do remember Ken telling me he had spent a small fortune having the Nippy engine rebuilt professionally by one of the well known companies.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

Phil... You are a star. Any thoughts on which specialists ?locally to ask further?. They might still remember and it would be a big confidence boost for me starting to road trial the car, if thats the case.

And that paint pot for the Fire Engine obviously supplied my paint job too!

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

...might the firm B+E Randall in Norfolk ring a bell...? I have an ambiguous receipt linked to 'E Randall' and Holmesdale that cannot be linked to my car (date too early) but might suggest there was a relationship with them.
They seem to be old school, long established engine rebuilders.

Re: anyone remember Sevens from Otley W.Yorks?

I imagine Holmesdale will refer to Holmesdale Sevens - Tony Leslie. Well respected, long term, parts supplier still trading at Southerdown, Forewood Lane, Crowhurst, Battle, East Sussex TN33 9AG
Phone:01424 830730.

Put B&E Randall into Google and you'll find they appear still to trading too.
