Chronometric rev counter to Austin Seven

Good Morning,

i am in the process of rebuilding a Special which haa a Markham Peasey fiberglass body, and i have a tachometer drive in the end of the distributor, which has been produced doing a drill in the alloy case which hold the distributor and dynamo.

I have a question, in order to attach a chronometric rev counter, which is the proportion of the revs which had to be on the tachometer mechanism? Maybe a 2-1 or a 4-1 ratio? Clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation? I guess 2-1 clockwise but i am in doubt and i don't know how to measure.

Many thanks for help and support from italy!

Re: Chronometric rev counter to Austin Seven

I used a smiths tach from ebay,it is 2-1 as the camshaft and distributor run at half engine speed and as mine is run from the bottom of the distributor it had to be anticlock (rare!) it is not chrono but mag drag.

Hi Phil, many thanks for your reply.

Would you be so kind to upload a picture of yours (maybe from google also) so i can see which one will work straight?

regards

Emanuel

Hello again, as i am trying to reproduce the correct SPEEDEX REV COUNTER,
which is anticlockwise 2-1 i would like to know if someone has a nice readable photo of it
so i can reproduce the dial. Many thanks!!

Re: Chronometric rev counter to Austin Seven

Have you checked Dave Armstrong's Speedex site for images? - there might be something on there.

Hi,

yes but the small numbers on the high part of the dial are difficult
to read, i was looking for a better readable
photo, also from a period leaflet would be good..

Re: Chronometric rev counter to Austin Seven

Emanuel,
I've sent you an email with the website photo and a close up of the gauge face.

The words at the top are;

T.E.S. LTD.
LUTON ENGLAND

Luton is the town where Speedex were made.

The gauge itself looks like a Smiths 'speedo'. There were some reverse direction speedometers like this but they are difficult to get - I believe they were fitted to AC Cobra's!

Are you going to get a replica face made? I'd be interested in a digital copy of the file if you are going to electronically print them.

I hope it works for you.

Dave
