tappet clearances - high lift cam.

I've now got the new timing gears on the special engine and the cam back in.

The cam appears to be modified to give higher lift, and has double springs.

It has been commented to me that the clearences on such a cam should be more than on a standard cam.

Father (my Austin mechanicing tutor) taught me to set at 6 and 8.

Is there any differing opinions?

Re: tappet clearances - high lift cam.

Hedd,
I use 6 and 8thou on all cams including high lift, though I've never had a proper Sports cam. It's also easy to remember, 6/8d is a third of a quid!

Re: tappet clearances - high lift cam.

I've just fitted one of Pigsty's road cams and they recommend 8 thou clearance.
