Re: Temperature gauge

How critical is the temperature? Do you just want to keep an eye on it, or does it have a habit of overheating. If the former, why not do away with the gauge and fit a calormeter?

Location: Deepest Norfolk

Re: Temperature gauge

Hi Rick,

I like to keep an eye on it because the only fan is an electric one which I have to switch on if stationary for more than a couple of minutes. I guess I could manage with a calorimeter but I'd prefer a guage if I can find a matching one.

Re: Temperature gauge

Not exactly what you're looking for, however the Complete Automobilist offer a brass rimmed (rim can easily be removed for plating to match your other instruments) water temperature gauge, but with black figures on white background rather than black on silver. It may also be a smaller diameter than the air pressure gauge you wish to replace.

Re: Temperature gauge

Hi Jeff,

Yes those are nice gauges. Vintage Supplies also have them. They're certainly expensive but they're not quite right really. I'm still looking in the hope of finding something more closely resembling the original and I'm awaiting a reply from someone else who I hope can help.

Re: Temperature gauge

I converted a white on black face by scanning and inverting the face in photoshop and then printing it onto a disk of aluminium using photocopy transfer paper from here

http://lazertran.com/

you can apply a coat of spray on varnish to protect it, I haven't got a photo but it looks pretty convicing. You still need to find a gauge though...
