Never throw anything away...
Re: Never throw anything away...

I bet it was cheap. Did you know that W.O. Bentleys had a five year guarantee when they were new, that's longer than many modern cars.

Re: Never throw anything away...

............and which car he paid for - 2-seater coupe UP 2100, or saloon RX 6108!

I never cease to be amazed at how sloppy newspapers can be when they put stories together.

Re: Never throw anything away...

Were there two cars, though? According to The Telegraph, the car was originally a 4-door saloon registered RX 6108, and now it's a 2-door drophead coupe registered UP 2100!

Let's hope they managed to assemble the correct components into the one car, otherwise DVLA will be issuing a Q-plate!

edit: Martin got there first!

Re: Never throw anything away...

No, there was only one car, UP 2100, the car found in component form in the house. The Saloon, RX 6108 is a totally different car and is connected to a totally different story. The Torygraph have got the story and the photos completely mixed up.

The Saloon RX 6108 is being sold by Bonhams at their Beaulieu sale tomorrow.

Both cars show up on mycarcheck with the correct basic details.

Re: Never throw anything away...

I showed this to my wife, to little effect.

Unfortunately she knows that a Jowett Javelin in comparable but better state is worth about $300 here (L120) and my RP with many extra bits very few multiples more.

Perhaps the lathe stage right provided a reasonable buy for someone.

Re: Never throw anything away...

Full details for the 'barnfind' RX 6108 in this months Automobile.
It is a 1929 4 1/2 litre Bentley untouched for 30 years.

Lots of money- I would think starting at £250,000 and heading north.
I hope an American doesn't buy it!!!!

Re: Never throw anything away...

And according to Yahoo the owner paid £280 for it .

Location: Dorchester

Re: Never throw anything away...

£280 was the price paid by the late deceased owner in 1962, which was a lot of money - a typical Austin Seven in 1962 was about £25!

Re: Never throw anything away...

According to the Bank of England's Inflation calculator, spending £280 in 1962 was the equivalent of spending £5,335 in 2014.

Re: Never throw anything away...

Still a very wise investment, although the owner has snuffed it, so no good to him now !

Re: Never throw anything away...

Re: Never throw anything away...

Good pictures, thanks.

Wow - you could buy more than 100 Rubys for that - but I wouldn't swap it for mine - it would very difficult to park at Asda...

Re: Never throw anything away...

More on that other 1928 4 1/2 litre Bentley-

Have a look at todays Pre War Car

http://www.prewarcar.com/

It notes the 1929 4 1/2 litre saloon sold at auction for £695,000!

Think I will stay with Austin Sevens.

Re: Never throw anything away...

One hundred Rubies! In that state, and with the current exchange rate, would expect far more than 2,000 here. Supply would be the limitation. 300-400 restored ones for the price..
