My father, Ray Haxby, who will be 99 this year and doesn't use the Internet, worked at the Town Major's Office in Trieste towards the end of the war, and married a Triestina in 1946. They settled in Whitstable, where I was born, but our family has always maintained very close links with my mother's relatives in Trieste. I have been there every year of my life, and it is truly my second home.
I was interested to read the account of a visit to the new military museum. My mother knew Diego de Enriquez well, having been at school with his sister, the sculptress Fiore. We used to see Fiore regularly at her flat in London.
