My dads name was Ernie. He was a Lance Corporal in the RMP 227 Provost in 1948 to 1949. He always spoke very fondly of his time in Trieste and always hoped to return but never did. I am travelling there this October and have been researching. Your website has been invaluable and for this I am very grateful. I hope to visit some of the sites he talked about including Rossetti barracks and Miramare Castle.
I believe his HQ was in the Piazza Oberdan but would be grateful if someone could confirm. I also understand that Dad was in the athletics team that went to Klagenfurt and was also captain of a water polo team. He also took part in the Mountbatten escort.
I have many photos that I will try to scan and upload if that's okay.
If anyone or their descendants knew my dad or was in his company it would be really good to hear from them. Any bits of information would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome. I'm glad you've found the website helpful' We'd be very glad to see any photos; it's straightforward to upload photos but don't be put off if they disappear into cyber-space. The wise men who host the website insist that photos have to be OKd before they're published. Please send me an email when you do it so they don't languish in space too long. I'll put them in the Provost album.
It's good if you can include any details when you upload, such as names of places and people.
Thanks Harry. I will give it a go and let you know.
