I was born stateless in 1952 Trieste in the Hospital Majore following my parents escape from Jugoslavia. We were domiciled in a refuge camp in Trieste administered at the time by the British Army. My father now deceased told me when I was young about the help he had whilst there from a British Army officer called Colonel Monk who I understand later died in action in Aden. I would welcome any information about this officer.
I'm sorry Ben that your post seems to have brought no response.
I visited the Displaced Persons' camp at Opicina only a few times and never met the officer you are enquiring about. I understand that there were many difficulties encountered by the residents but it's good to know that the existence of the camps was of help.
