I hope this message forum is not completely redundant!
My father, Philip Henry Hawke, (known as Pip), served with 13 Corps Signals in and around Trieste in 1945-1946. I have photos of him and others at the Officers' Mess in Sistiana. He told me very little about his time there -- mostly jokey anecdotes. But he never really explained how an English signals officer came to be involved in this often forgotten part of the war, or what, precisely, he did while he was there. We have asked for his military records and drawn a blank. He wasn't fully de-mobbed until 1946 or 47, and it's all a bit of a mystery.
If there is still anyone around who recalls having met him in Trieste, or recalls their father talking about him, please get in touch.
Angela, have you seen the 35 photographs in the Royal Signals album on the website? It's also possible to search the message board by using the "search" box and entering any word, name or date to bring up any post that has used those words etc.
Thank you so much! I will do that. All the best, Angela
Thanks again for that. I added a couple of photos of my Dad to the Royal Signals album. All the very best, Angela
Hello Angela I've looked in the "public uploads" and found 15 but none has any indication of which album it's intended for. Are they all yours?
Since I last shifted photos from the public uploader into the appropriate album the folks hat Bravenet have mucked about with the system; anyhow I think I've managed it. Have a look; are they all OK?
Dear Harry, the first two black and white photos are of my Dad in Sistiana. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the others. All the best, angela
Most of the others are now in "Information please" but some are also clearly "Signals".
