In the very early days of this message board I put on, in serial form, a tale written by one of our oldest members - possibly our oldest member - Tom Norton. Tom was in the Intelligence Corps and on detachment, by himself near Gorizia.
At the time of the incident, before the Free Territory of Trieste had been set up, Tom was lodging in a private house and, dressed in somewhat scruffy civilian clothes, he was keeping track of, and recording on a map, Jugoslav troop dispositions in the area.
It's a story too good to be lost so I am intending to republish it on its own page on the website. It should be ready in a few days. It will be called "Incident on the Bridge".
Harry, am reading your bridge message in Opatija. Will be in TS tomorrow Saturday when I hope Tom will have arrived. This a a very ok resort. I believe most of the group invaded Slovenia yesterday !
Roy, I'm sure you'll be thinking of us while you're there.
Lovely place Abbazia. Had a few weekends there in 52-53. There are photos in the TSO album.
Give Tom my regards please but don't let him lead you astray.
The story is now published on its own page on the website.
I'm indebted to Fred for his help.
