For anything relating to the 44ft Lifeboats

I have my very own 44ft MLB engineer EN3/MKCS William Collette Ret.
who has very kindly agreed to help you with your engineering questions.

First time riding an MLB

Hi,

I'm considering enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard, and I am really interested in being a coxswain or a surfman driving motor lifeboats.

I have a few friends who have done this, but I would like to find out first hand what it is like to drive or ride these boats. What was it like the first time you rode an MLB, and is it a very stressful job; having to operate a boat in high surf, or is it more exhilarating?

Being that I would enlist, what would you say basic training is like?

Any tips, etc?

Thanks!

John
